Behavioral Health
Our health is strongly influenced by our mental wellbeing. Mental wellbeing means being able to function in daily life, have fulfilling relationships, adapt to change, cope with challenges, contribute to our community, and maintain a healthy concept of who we are. Mental wellbeing can be promoted in communities by ensuring access to prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services. Behavioral health also addresses substance use, or the use of alcohol, illegal drugs, and/or prescribed medications in ways that are harmful to people and communities.
Priority Area
Exercise, Nutrition & Weight
The foods we eat, how active we are, and our bodyweight all impact our overall health, including whether we develop chronic diseases, how we manage health conditions, and how long we live. Addressing exercise, nutrition, and weight in communities means working to create conditions in which we can all eat plenty of healthy food, exercise regularly, and maintain a healthy bodyweight.
Priority Area
Access to Health & Social Services
When we can get needed health services, we live healthier and longer lives. Access to care means that high-quality, comprehensive, and affordable health services are available to people to improve health, prevent diseases, manage chronic conditions, and get treatment for illness or injury. Access to care can be promoted in communities by improving health insurance coverage, health service availability, and by reducing barriers to care.
